The 30-minute test

Conducted by a team of Finland researchers at the Åbo Akademi University, a memory test was performed on 116 willing volunteers who were separated into three groups. The first group was provided with a memory updating task involving visualization and semantic devices and were asked to complete it within half an hour. The second group was given the same task but were not provided with strategies that would aid their efforts to complete it. The third group, and control, was not given any activity. The results of the test concluded that subjects given strategies performed far better at the task than those without any, while those who were not given strategies but encouraged to utilize their own also performed somewhat better than the control group. These results indicate that an effort to use memory training strategies can positively support the memory retention of the brain, meaning that a few minutes of brain training every day can do wonders in the long-term.
